NFL Prediction
Carson Beck is a talented QB that has bad slumps and maturity issues. Watching him play against Louisville was a headache. On all 4 interceptions, you can see where he should have gone with the ball. If you did not watch the game, I will explain what transpired in each one below. There were plenty of concerns about Beck before the game against Louisville, and I think it is fair to say we have even more after that game was done. His on field disaster aside, blaming teammates in the post game press conference is a good way to lose the locker room and destroy whatever credibility you have as a leader. Those comments have definitely moved him down some draft boards and possibly off of others entirely. I would value him as a quality back up, I don’t see franchise QB quality from him at this point in time.
On the first INT he had 3 other receivers open, 2 out of the backfield with room to run and Keelan Marion had nothing but daylight down the left sideline. Instead he threw a deep ball to Malachi Toney, when he was surrounded by two defensive backs with a third closing in.
On the second INT, Beck had 2 options wide open. CJ Daniels ran an out route towards the side Beck was looking at, that only highlights how he goes into these slumps where he ignores checkdowns. What is additionally troublesome is Marion was never open and Beck threw to him anyway. He ran a go route, Beck forced the issue and underthrew the ball. The CB was ahead of Marion and had the inside track so he had every advantage on a go route jump ball.
On the 3rd INT, it was 4th down 4 yards to go and Beck had a wide check down open right past the 1st down mark. He felt pressure from the defense and tried forcing a deep ball to CJ Daniels. Beck threw off his back foot, it was underthrown and intercepted.
The last INT happened on 1st down just on the edge of FG range and Miami needed a FG to send the game into OT. It looked like the play was supposed to be a quick out route pass to the TE to get out of bounds and preserve the clock. What happened on the play was the throw was tipped by a defensive lineman. That allowed the defender covering the TE to undercut the route and intercept the pass. Then Beck threw his teammate under the bus claiming he ran the wrong route. If he did run the wrong route, then Beck should throw the ball away. He took a 2 step drop back after the snap, he had time to react and throw it away.
