On-Field Positives:
Great hands, only has 1 fumble in his college career and ND recovered the ball.
Bounces off defenders
Slippery runner
Can be utilized in the passing game (out of backfield & in the slot).
Changes pace with sudden bursts of speed.
Changes direction effectively.
He has great balance.
Breaks through tackles effectively.
Ball carrier vision & sees the open field well.
Doesn’t seek contact when running.
Has the ability to score on any play. That is nice quality, but don’t want him looking to get in the end zone on every play.
Ability to effectively juke, stiff arm, and spin to avoid defenders, but he doesn’t rely on those moves to break tackles.
Physical Traits:
6’, 214lbs
His body type is big and strong enough to be a power runner and not too big that his speed would be affected.
Elusiveness
Speed
Power
Concerns:
Hurdles too much
Endured a knee injury in 2024 but did not miss any games.
RB is the last position in football that does not have specific rules or regulations on proper ways to tackle them. Making the odds of being injured from tackles not in the RB’s favor.
NFL Prediction
Love appears to be a very dynamic runner of the football. If he had the same amount of carries as Barkley did in 2017 we are probably looking at very parallelling years. With 217 carries Barkley ran for over 1,200 yards and 18 TDs. Love had 163 carries, ran for over 1,100 yards and had 17 TDs. I’m predicting that as long as that knee injury does not come back and linger, Love’s name will be in the conversation of top 5 RB in the NFL. Love certainly showed he was capable of being a top 5 RB in Notre Dame’s game against USC last Saturday.
